Hooks-Epstein Galleries presents "Golden Hour", a summer group exhibition bringing together three contemporary artists—Angel Oloshove, Liv Johnson, and Gaby Hurtado-Ramos—whose distinct visual languages collectively evoke golden hour as both a visual experience and a threshold between states of being. 2026 ARTIST STATEMENT:
My sculptural practice explores the intersection of the physical and digital realms, with ceramic as both medium and metaphor. As a material forged by elemental forces, ceramic holds a unique alchemical power. It transforms raw earth through fire. I’m drawn to this process not only for its physicality but for its mystical resonance. The kiln becomes a crucible for change, a space where intention, chance, and transformation converge.
I am deeply interested in representations of the divine and the mystical, especially as they circulate in contemporary visual culture. Recent work reimagines celestial beings figures popularized through internet memes and AI-generated imagery, rendered in clay as a way to reconcile fleeting digital trends with enduring material presence. This tension between the ephemeral and the permanent fascinates me. I see my sculptures as artifacts of a hybrid world, rooted in ancient ritual and shaped by the visual language of our digital age.
