Hooks-Epstein Galleries presents Ronald L. Jones’ "Under Whose Influence", an exhibition of mixed media sculptures. On view in the Mini Gallery, the exhibition will open at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 22, 2025 with the Artist Reception from 5:00–7:00 P.M.
Contemporary artist Ronald L. Jones’ "Under Whose Influence" is an introspective exhibition exploring identity, influence, and self-perception through intricate wireframe sculpting. A Houston-based artist recognized for his tactile explorations of cultural and psychological landscapes, Jones uses his latest body of work to examine the unseen forces that shape personal and collective identity, inviting layered conversations on how these influences are manifested.
Through "Under Whose Influence", Jones visualizes internal dialogues, recognizing both direct and indirect forces that contribute to identity formation. His use of wireframe structures symbolizes the fluid and evolving nature of self-perception, while also projecting forward into imagined futures. Each piece serves as a framework—both literal and conceptual—challenging viewers to examine the unseen forces that shape their own identities.
Ronald L. Jones is a multidisciplinary artist and documentary filmmaker who draws inspiration from oral histories and community narratives to examine inequities and the structures that sustain them. Through written, spoken, and visual documentation, he transforms personal and collective experiences into broader conversations on identity and social change. Jones’ work has been exhibited at the Houston Museum of African American Culture, Galveston Arts Center, Art League Houston, Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, etc. Select professional assignments of Jones include Arts & Culture Texas, the Houston Chronicle, BBC News, Glasstire, and the U.N.
