Sandi Seltzer Bryant: "Journeys Remembered" | The Jung Center | April 17th - May 28, 2021 |
In three separate, unique bodies of work, Sandi Seltzer Bryant reflects on the experiences that make up the current stage of her life journey. "Collage Paintings" is defined by the materials that comprise the works—acrylic paint married with papers and drawing implements from different cultures that have influenced Sandi along the way. "Lagoon Hues" is inspired by time in Iceland. More specifically, from Sandi’s stay at the Blue Lagoon—a geothermal spa with striking milky blue waters set amidst vast lava fields. "Square State Escape" reflects a summer escapade through the Wild West, in an effort to make the best of the once unimaginable 2020 lockdown. These works are marked by a change in palette and more direct reference to landscape. Making art becomes about visions as they build, layer upon layer, over time. As Sandi paints, the work takes on a life of its own. Each painting feeds off of the previous, creating a dialogue. Once complete, the whole body of work extends that dialogue to include the viewer, bringing their own interpretation.
