"Savoring"

In observance of FotoFest Biennial 2020, Hooks-Epstein Galleries is proud to present photography-based works by Julie Brook Alexander. In her latest body of work, "Savoring", Alexander invites the viewer to relish creativity in nourishment. Alexander's passion for discovering visual relationships in her natural surroundings has led her to focus on the part of it that she experiences most often—food. For Alexander, this has opened the door to research on flavor harmonies and food combinations that, in a word, sing. In the same fashion that Julie Brook Alexander combines fresh produce, she layers medium format focus-stacked photographs of two primary ingredients. As the individual photographs blend together, visualizations, which entice the palate, emerge.
