Charlotte Ford Cosgrove is an artist and educator. She holds an MFA in painting from University of Pennsylvania and a BA from Pennsylvania State University. Cosgrove was on the faculty of the Glassell School of Art, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, for 50 years. She developed and taught studio courses in basic and advanced drawing, 2D design, conceptual art, and collage and assemblage, as well as courses in contemporary art history. Cosgrove also taught courses at the High School for Performing and Visual Arts and co-founded a photography business in Houston.
Cosgrove’s artworks are small, intimate drawings in ink and color pencil. Charming and narrative, they employ humor and simplicity to explore the dark undercurrents of world events and daily life. Solo exhibitions include "A Transitory Realm" (2009) at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas in Beaumont and "House of Shadows" (2007) at the Ellen Noël Art Museum in Odessa, Texas. Group exhibitions include "Double Take", a project she also organized and curated. "Double Take" (2001–02), originated at Art League Houston. Three different versions of "Double Take" were exhibited at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas in Beaumont, the Art Center of Waco, and the dberman Gallery in Austin. Cosgrove’s curatorial work includes "Collage & Assemblage" (2023), a retrospective exhibition of 100 works by her former Glassell students. Cosgrove’s artwork is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, and numerous private collections.
