Hooks-Epstein Galleries is proud to present intricate beadweaving art by Heather Logan. The exhibition of work will open at 11:00AM on Saturday, April 5, 2025 with an Artists’ Reception taking place from 5:00-8:00PM.
Heather Logan captivates viewers with her meticulously crafted beadweaving pieces, blending traditional techniques with modern ideas to create pieces that are timeless and unique. Working on a small scale, she finds inspiration in the meditative process of beadwork, describing her creations as tiny pixels of light. Logan’s designs feature highly structured, geometric forms composed of thousands of Delica beads—approximately 300 beads per square inch—requiring countless hours of dedicated work. The interplay of light on opaque, translucent, transparent, and reflective beads plays a vital role in her vibrant designs.
In addition to intricate bead patterns, her pieces often incorporate unique materials such as antique buttons, Japanese shibori ribbons, feathers, seashells, lampwork beads, and sterling silver—with unexpected surprises woven throughout. Inspired by contemporary bead artists Julia Pretl and Mikki Ferrugiaro, Heather Logan celebrates the rich history of beadweaving, while pushing the boundaries on the art form. Each piece is a labor of love, inviting viewers to take a closer look and appreciate the beauty and whimsy found in her creations.
Heather Logan holds a B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Texas at Austin (1964), a Certification in Fine & Decorative Arts from Christie’s International in London (1990), and an M.S. in Visualization Sciences from Texas A&M University (1993), where her thesis explored computer-mediated interactive art. Her early career as a computer scientist, spanning over two decades, reflects her deep-rooted fascination with structure and precision. Transitioning into the arts, Logan worked as an independent artist and Adjunct Lecturer in Printmaking at Rice University from 1990-2003. Since 2000, she has focused on beadweaving, combining her technical background with her artistic vision to create intricate, geometrically inspired works that invite close examination and celebrate light, texture, and unexpected details. Heather Logan currently resides in Austin, Texas.
